Biography

Luis Pablo Yon Secaida, PhD, is a Guatemalan architect who earned his Doctorate in Architecture from the University of Hokkaido, Japan. His expertise lies in architectural design, with a strong focus on parametric and computational methodologies.

His professional career spans Central America and includes work on both commercial and residential projects, ranging from low-rise to high-rise developments. While practicing in Guatemala, Luis Pablo was part of a team responsible for environmental analysis and assessment across numerous architectural projects in the region, integrating comfort analysis with parametric design techniques. He also served as a Technical Coordinator Assistant at the Guatemala Green Building Council, where he contributed to the development of Guatemala’s first sustainable construction handbook, CASA.

After his professional experience in Guatemala, Luis Pablo was awarded the MEXT Scholarship, which enabled him to pursue a Master’s degree in Architecture and Structural Design at the University of Hokkaido in Sapporo, Japan. His research focused on helping the local culture and architecture in rural communities in Guatemala. During this period, he was recognized at both national and regional levels as a winner of the HULT Prize for his startup TIKBAL, which aims to empower Guatemalan women weavers by connecting them to global markets.

Following the completion of his Master’s degree, he continued his academic path by pursuing a PhD in Architecture at the same institution. His doctoral research explored the adaptation of international recovery frameworks within the Guatemalan context, using case studies such as black salt production to demonstrate how regional development can benefit from these approaches. He was awarded his Doctorate in Architecture in 2026 and joined ABD Architecture LLC in the same year.

In his free time, Luis Pablo is passionate about DJing, digital painting, and 3D modeling. His creative interests are closely tied to his professional work, as he continues to explore the integration of computational methods into both design and artistic expression.
